“Listening is an art that requires

attention over talent, spirit over ego, others over self.

MINDFULNESS

Mindfulness refers to being present moment focused, accepting each moment as it arises. It is a practice and a way of approaching life that encompasses certain attitudes such as flexibility, patience, non-judgement awareness, and compassion for others and for ourselves.

Cultivating mindfulness through formal and informal mindfulness exercises can be a powerful means of reducing the detrimental emotional and physiological effects of stress, thereby enhancing emotional and physical health as well as the potential richness of our daily lives.

ACCEPTANCE AND COMMITMENT THERAPY

Acceptance and Commitment therapy teaches people to become psychologically flexible, to let go of rigid patterns and to build a life you choose, rather than a life based on avoiding or fighting unwanted thoughts and emotions. Many unwanted experiences can’t be controlled, but in working with me, you can learn how to commit to actions that keep you living a life in line with your chosen values.

COGNITIVE BEHAVIOURAL THERAPY

Cognitive behaviour therapy teaches people how their thoughts and feelings influence their behaviours. People often experience thoughts or feelings that reinforce or compound faulty beliefs. Such beliefs can result in problematic behaviours that can affect numerous life areas, including family, romantic relationships, work, and academics. In order to combat these destructive thoughts and behaviours, the first step is to help you identify how problematic beliefs, feelings, and situations contribute to maladaptive behaviours. Then we will focus on the actual behaviours that are contributing to the problem so you can start to practice new skills that can then be put into use in real-world situations. In most cases, CBT is a gradual process that we can explore to assist you in taking incremental steps towards a behaviour change.

SOLUTIONS-FOCUSED THERAPY

Solution-focused therapy is based on solution-building rather than problem-solving. It explores current resources and future hopes rather than present problems and past causes. When utilizing a solutions focused approach, your “problem” plays a lesser and lesser part in the therapeutic process. Instead, all attention is given to developing a picture of your preferred future, or ‘solution’ and discovering the resources to achieve it.

HYPNOTHERAPY AND HYPNOSIS

Hypnotherapy is another form of psychotherapy that can be utilized to augment counselling, particularly for life long emotional disorders. Hypnotherapy makes use of hypnosis to uncover events from your past that may be influencing your present circumstance.

How does Hypnotherapy work?

Hypnotherapy works best when you understand a little bit about the conscious and unconscious mind. The conscious mind houses our short-term memory; it is rational, analytical and asks critical questions. Our first attempt at dealing with problems often involves analyzing the problem, rationalizing our behaviour in response to the problem, or in the case of bad habits, we may try will-power to see if we can change. Unfortunately, our conscious mind can’t always get in touch with problems that are rooted in our unconscious, which is why willpower often doesn’t work on a long-term basis.

The unconscious mind houses all of our emotions, habits, and memories, as well as self-preservation. This important protective feature can create beliefs or habits to help keep us safe when our emotional or physical security is threatened. But, sometimes the bad habit can continue even when the real or perceived threat is no longer present. Utilizing hypnosis, we can access the unconscious mind to identify and let go of habits or beliefs that no longer serve us well.

ON-LINE THERAPY AND COACHING

Why choose therapy or life coaching online? Short answer: It’s easy. Most of my online clients choose to meet with me through Skype or FaceTime because it’s simply a much more efficient use of their time than meeting in-person.

Even in the middle of a busy day, you can simply close your office door, have a session, and then get back to business. Furthermore many of my professional clients who travel frequently for business meet for counselling or coaching from hotel rooms around the world. Meeting online for counselling or life coaching is simply convenient.
