I focus on enlightening your inner world so you can change your outer world.
We walk together on a journey of self-awareness and self-discovery to bring you personal growth and healing. My clients deal with a range of struggles from personal difficulties to a desire to improve their relationships. My approach combines acceptance and mindfulness with a solutions focused method to build on your strengths and make positive change.
My style is different than what you may imagine or have experienced. I see mistakes as opportunities and struggles as doors to learning. I give clients the skills they need to see that for themselves. Most of our work together focuses on what is going on today, but we also take a peek into the past to see what has influenced current behaviors and circumstances. We build on that with empathy, understanding, and a little humor to help you achieve your happiest, healthiest self.

The first session, as well as the whole therapeutic process, is about you. I want you to be comfortable with me and confident in our time together.
First, we will review important paperwork. Don’t feel that it needs to be filled out before you get here. We can walk through it together. Your paperwork might include basic demographic and contact information, important medical history, previous therapy experience, and your present concerns. We will also review an informed consent form, which covers canceling/rescheduling sessions, procedures for psychological emergencies, and confidentiality.
Throughout your session, you will do most of the talking. I give you space to tell your story and come to new realizations. You help me better understand your concerns and experiences. Along the way, I may insert an interpretive comment or clarifying question. This is also your time to ask me questions. Together, we will formulate a plan for moving forward.
If you decide to proceed with therapy, we will develop a schedule based on your needs. For instance, we might start with meeting once a week, taper to twice a month, and so on. We will work toward your goals, such as increasing awareness of how thoughts and actions impact emotions and learning to manage negative feelings. Depending on your needs, we may work on specific skills to improve daily functioning.
In every session, from the first visit through the whole process, my approach is client-centered and collaborative. My training in acceptance and commitment therapy, solution-focused therapy, mindfulness approaches, and cognitive behaviour therapy keep our work together centered on your needs and your goals.
